Frequently Asked Questions

Is Osteopathy covered by private health insurance?

Yes. If you have a policy that includes Osteopathy as one of your extras.

Do I need a referral to see an Osteopath?

You do not need a referral from your Doctor to see an Osteopath for a private consultation.

If you require a consultation covered by the EPC scheme then you will need a GP referral.

Can an Osteopath refer for X-rays?

An Osteopath can refer Patients for bulk billed X-rays of the spine and pelvis only. Emergency MRIs of the knee can also be referred.

How long is an Osteopathic consult?

An initial Osteopathic consultation is 45 minutes to 60 minutes. This includes an extensive history taken, examination and treatment.

Return Osteopathic consultations are 30 minutes duration.

What should I bring?

Bring any old relevant scans (including reports) to your appointment. A list of any medications being taken and surgical information or documentation is also useful.

What should I wear?

Wear loose comfortable clothing. It is easier for your Osteopath to assess and treat you if you are able to disrobe down to your underwear. We understand however that not all patients are comfortable with this so please let your Osteopath know if you would prefer clothing left on. Modesty, Ease & comfort is a priority. All patients will be draped with a towel or light blanket for modesty.

Do all patients need to have their joints manipulated or “cracked”?

No.

All of our staff are trained for safe and effective joint manipulation however this is only performed with patient compliance and permission. We do not advocate joint manipulation on babies and it is used sparingly on children only with parental consent.

Do we do taping?

Some of our staff have trained in taping techniques. If this is something you require please let our receptionist know during time of booking.

How will I feel after treatment?

Some people feel immediate relief after treatment. Some patients feel a little tender after treatment. We advise relative rest for 24 hours after treatment to allow the body to ease into its new state. This means no hard gym work outs, boot camp sessions or fence post removals! We also advise drinking water and eating a high protein meal during the evening to encourage muscle repair and regeneration. If your pain is exacerbated by treatment and is still present within 24 hours of your session please call the clinic to discuss.
