What is PLANTAR FASCIITIS?!?

Plantar Fasciitis is a foot based condition that causes pain and discomfort during walking, first thing in the morning or after rest. The pain is commonly located at the base of the heel on the underside of the foot.

Who can get Plantar Fasciitis?

Common causes that may led to an onset of this condition include...

- Runners and individuals in a repetitive sport.

- Poor ankle mobility or biomechanics.

- Aged >30 and <50 years old.

- Overweight or high BMI which leads to excessive pressure in the heel during your walking gait.

- Excessive toe extension; common when wearing boots or flip flops.

Why should I see an Osteopath?

An Osteopath will Focus broadly on your pain and work to correct compensatory patterns caused by your injury to return the ankle, knee and hip to a neutral position. This will assist with decreasing discomfort throughout the plantar fascia during your walking or repetitive tasks.

Your Osteopath may also use a combination of massage, dry needling, cupping, traction and manipulation to achieve the above gaol!

Exercise rehabilitation can also be used between you and your osteopath to provide you with education around rest, mobility, strength and stretch exercises. This will help avoid further irritation to the plantar fascia through tailored exercises from your specific Osteopath.

Treatment may be spread over several weeks to months, starting with gentle movements, and slowly progressing to more vigorous exercise over the coming months to restore strength to the foot; allowing you to hopefully return to normal physical function without pain.

What can you do to help?

Avoid repetitive and painful tasks that provoke your pain. If you are unable to avoid the pain, apply ice to the pain site to ease any local swelling occurring due to overuse.
